ASTM A106  standard covers seamless cold drawn low carbon steel heat exchanger and condenser tubes. Seamless low-carbon steel tube for heat exchange and condenser,including wall thickness and outside diameter tubes.


ASTM A106 also covers minimum-wall-thickness, tubing sizes, general requirements, surface conditions, chemical composition etc. ASTM A106 provides tensile and hardness properties but if the size is not acceptable. Material manufacturing shall be killed. Tubes shall be made by seamless cold drawn process, marked cold-finished. Surface condition shall be free of scale . Chemical composition shall  be confirmed to client’s requirements. Elemental composition other than listed here shall not be permitted. Except above , testing included tension, flattening, flaring, hardness, . heat exchange and condenser tubes shall be formed without defects and shall withstand expansion, beading, forging, welding, and bending.

Scope

This specification means the minimum-wall-thickness,  low-carbon seamless steel tube for heat exchange, condensers, and similar condenser etc.

 

Note 1—This type is not suitable for safe ending

 

The tubing sizes and thicknesses usually furnished to this specification are 1/8 inch. to 3 inch. [3.2 to 76.2mm] in outside diameter or with a wall thickness under 0.015 in (0.4mm). Tubing having other dimensions may be finished, provided tubes comply with all others requirements of the specification.


Mechanical property requirements didn’t apply to tubing smaller than 1/8 inch. [3.2 mm] in inside diameter or 0.015 inch [0.4 mm] in thickness.

The values stated in either inch-pound unit or SI unit is to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformity with the specification. The inch-pound units shall apply unless the “M” designation of this specification is specified in the order.
